Microwave Propagation in the Upper Troposphere

چکیده
Ernest P. Manly, W7LHL PO Box 1307 Graham, WA 98338-1307 [email protected] The selection of propagation modes for amateur microwave stations is often progressive. Most of us start with simple equipment and the contacts are usually by line-of-sight propagation. Longer distances are then accomplished by going to high locations. As equipment gets better, the use of various objects for reflections and scattering becomes a possibility. Hills, mountains, water tanks are attractive, since they are generally available at any time. Aircraft are also attractive reflectors when they are at high altitudes.1 Scat-

Seasonal stratospheric intrusion of ozone in the upper troposphere over India
The Model for Ozone and Related chemical Tracers-2 (MOZART-2) is used to examine the evolution of pollutant O3 in the upper troposphere over the Indian region. Vertical profiles of ozone mixing ratio retrieved from Microwave Limb Sounder (MLS) aboard Earth Observing System (EOS) AURA satellite for the period 2005–2009 and Tropospheric Emission Spectrometer (TES) aboard (EOS) AURA for the period...

متن کاملComparison of satellite limb-sounding humidity climatologies of the uppermost tropical troposphere
Humidity climatologies of the tropical uppermost troposphere from satellite limb emission measurements have been compared. Four instruments are considered; UARS-MLS, Odin-SMR, and Aura-MLS operating in the microwave region, and MIPAS in the infrared region. A reference for the comparison is obtained by MOZAIC in-situ measurements. The upper tropospheric humidity products were compared on basis ...
متن کاملOn the warming in the tropical upper troposphere: Models versus observations
[1] IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) AR4 (Fourth Assessment Report) GCMs (General Circulation Models) predict a tropical tropospheric warming that increases with height, reaches its maximum at ∼200 hPa, and decreases to zero near the tropical tropopause. This study examines the GCM‐predicted maximum warming in the tropical upper troposphere using satellite MSU (microwave soundin...
متن کاملDiscrepancies in tropical upper tropospheric warming between atmospheric circulation models and satellites
Recent studies have examined tropical upper tropospheric warming by comparing coupled atmosphere–ocean global circulation model (GCM) simulations from Phase 3 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP3) with satellite and radiosonde observations of warming in the tropical upper troposphere relative to the lower-middle troposphere. These studies showed that models tended to overestimate...
